FAQ

1. Will I need a referral?

A referral from a GP or Specialist is required for your first consultation. This referral will be valid from the first appointment date with Professor Bokor for 12 months with a GP referral and 3 months from the first appointment for a Specialist referral.

If you are a previous patient of Professor Bokor’s and you are coming back for a new injury or re-injury a new referral will be required for that appointment as well.

2. Will I need an X-ray or MRI?

Your GP may initially refer you to get some imaging prior to coming to see Professor Bokor. Please bring those films with you to your appointment. We are unable to suggest what imaging you may require over the phone therefore you will be required to come in for an initial consultation prior to possibly being sent for any further imaging or tests. Imaging can be costly, and we try to avoid sending patients for potentially unnecessary imaging.

3. What do I bring with me to my appointment?

  • Your referral letter from your GP or Specialist

  • Any X-ray or Scans films related to your injury you may have had

  • A list of the current medication

  • Copies of any medical records or correspondence related to your injury

  • Medicare Card

  • Health Fund details (If you are in a fund)

  • If you are a Workers Compensation Claim, you will need an approval from your insurer for your appointment

4. How much is an Initial Consultation?

An initial Consultation is $300, payable at the time of your appointment. Staff can submit your claim to Medicare electronically on the day. Medicare will pay a partial rebate of $76.80 back into your account over a 36-48-hour period. Any further consultation following the Initial consultation is $180, with a rebate of $38.60 from Medicare.

5. How many appointments will I need before I can book surgery?

A patient will generally come in for an initial appointment and depending on the outcome of that appointment, the patient may be referred off for further imaging or testing and will be required back to see the doctor again prior to booking surgery. This is a general timeline and is a on a case by case basis.

6. What should I wear?

Please ensure that underclothing is worn to allow the shoulder to be examined with the outer garments removed. At times we need to observe your shoulder blades movement during the examination.
