Professor Des Bokor specialises in shoulder and elbow surgery and sports medicine with a particular interest in shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic shoulder surgery, rotator cuff disease and instability surgery. He is acknowledged by his peers as one of the most respected and experienced shoulder surgeons in Australia.

Professor Bokor graduated from Monash University in Melbourne with Honours and completed his Orthopaedic Training in Sydney on the Australian Orthopaedic Association Training Program. Following this, he completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine/Knee Surgery in Sydney and then spent time at St Joseph’s Hospital and the University of Western Ontario, Canada, as a Fellow training in Shoulder Surgery with Professor Richard Hawkins. As well as these fellowships, Professor Des Bokor spent extra time studying with Dr. Frank Jobe at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic in Los Angeles, Dr. Stephen Snyder at Southern California Orthopaedic Institute in Los Angeles and Dr. Edward Craig at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Professor Des Bokor is a founding member of the Shoulder and Elbow Society of Australia and has held the positions of both Secretary and President. He is also a member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Society, the Australian Orthopaedic Association, the Australian Medical Association and Hawkins Society.

He is an Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery with the Bone and Joint Program in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Macquarie University, Sydney NSW and the Macquarie University Private Hospital. He was instrumental in establishing and developing the Orthopaedic department at Macquarie University Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.  To further strengthen his skills in education Professor Des Bokor completed and graduated in a Master of Higher Education (Medical) from Macquarie University, December 2009. He is also Chairman of the Medical Advisory Clinic at Macquarie University Hospital.

Professor Bokor has published numerous research papers and been involved with writing several book chapters on a variety of topics in sports medicine and shoulder problems. He is an invited lecturer to numerous scientific meetings both in Australia and overseas. He has also travels regularly to Cambodia (over the last 12 years) to teach Cambodian Residents and Surgeons at the University of Cambodia as well as treat patients at Sihanouk Hospital of Hope, Kosimak Hospital and Children’s Surgical Centre in Phnom Penh.
